COUNSELLING AND PSYCHOTHERAPY
The counselling and psychotherapy relationship is unique in that it supports you to bring any concerns that may be troubling you to a non-judgmental, unbiased person. Sometimes friends and family, however loving and sympathetic, are just too close to you to help you make the choices and changes that you may be seeking.
My aim is to provide a safe, confidential, non-judgmental relationship that will support you to discuss and work through any issues that are troubling you. This may require short-term counselling, where you will focus on a specific issue or problem in your current life, or longer-term psychotherapy to look at deeper and more long-standing problems.
Counselling tends to be a short-term process where you will concentrate on a specific difficulty.
Psychotherapy involves working at a deeper level and generally for a longer time, although brief therapy is also valuable for many people.
I offer all these ways of working, and when we first meet, I will discuss which suits you best.
Whether you are in counselling or in psychotherapy, a very important element of the work is the relationship between client and therapist. The initial meeting between a potential client and therapist is a two-way assessment, where each of us can find out if we feel comfortable to work productively together.
